2D Character Artist

Fusebox Games is rapidly becoming a market leader in the Interactive Narrative mobile gaming space. We make 2D games with pride and passion, taking popular licenses and turning them into high quality narrative experiences. Our latest release, Love Island: The Game, consistently hits the top spot in both UK and US charts, and the company is now exploring other stories, including an original title. Fusebox has just passed its third birthday, with a team size of around 30+, and is heading full steam ahead to grow the business into a 20M+ user base.

We’re currently looking for a 2D Character Artist to join the team. The role requires jumping into an existing workflow and visual style. Applicants must have a strong character portfolio and an eye for composition, specifically in relation to the social/mobile games industry.

Responsibilities

  • Create imaginative designs of characters for use in current and new titles under the direction of the Team Lead and Art Director

  • Prioritise workflow and complete assigned tasks utilising tracking tools used by the projects

  • Work closely with game designers and engineers to ensure that all aspects of our games are of a high quality for end users

Requirements

  • 3+ years of games industry or freelance work experience

  • Shipped at least one commercially successful mobile game

  • High quality portfolio demonstrating a range of art styles

  • A proven track record of creating appealing characters

  • Ability to match the house or project style

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Solid art foundation in drawing, painting, anatomy and perspective with strong understanding of composition and colour theory

  • Good artistic sensibilities and attention to detail

  • Able to work to strict technical and artistic limitations

  • Versatile and willing to switch tasks based on the project’s need

  • Flexible and prepared to engage in problem-solving during game development

  • Understanding of in-game art optimisation, image compression, sprite sheet creation and preparation for mobile

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Additional skills such as UI design, animation, 3D modelling, etc.
