Art Director

Fusebox Games is rapidly becoming a market leader in the Interactive Narrative mobile gaming space. We make 2D games with pride and passion, taking popular licenses and turning them into high quality narrative experiences. Our latest release, Love Island: The Game, consistently hits the top spot in both UK and US charts, and the company is now exploring other stories, including an original title. Fusebox has just passed its third birthday, with a team size of around 30+, and is heading full steam ahead to grow the business into a 20M+ user base.

We’re currently looking for an Art Director to join the team. You’ll be responsible for managing internal and external artists to deliver high quality content for our titles.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Product Lead taking an active role on new game concepts, features and prototypes

  • Be instrumental in defining the art direction and maintaining a consistent visual style

  • Establish language and vision for each project

  • Manage large and diverse teams, supporting all levels of the department

  • Ensure art teams have the proper techniques and tools to deliver top quality art on a project

  • Motivate and inspire the art team ensuring they keep the artistic style and mood consistent with defined visual style

  • Mentor and provide strong career and technical guidance to art staff

  • Drive innovation, establish best practices and methods for art staff

  • Keep abreast of upcoming innovations in the industry and identify how we can continue to progress the department

  • Define and maintain art production pipelines for efficiency and state of the art assets.

  • Clearly and effectively communicate with all levels of the business

  • Carry out performance follow ups and assessments

  • Participate in the selection of team members

  • Manage any conflicts that arise within the team

  • Create a work environment that is motivating for team members and which fosters development and creation

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years industry experience

  • Previously held Lead Artist or Art Director positions

  • Previous experience of managing multiple teams

  • Multiple shipped high-profile titles

  • Demonstrable experience in Agile project management

  • Experience of working to budgets and managing a large departmental budget

  • Experience managing a team through challenging time constraints and delivering to set deadlines

  • Solid art foundation in traditional and digital art, anatomy and perspective and be able to teach and communicate these elements to art staff

  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication

  • Able to grow junior staff members to senior level

  • Strong graphic and UI design skills

  • Strong understanding of asset and UI optimization for mobile platforms

  • Working understanding of Unity

  • A quality games focused portfolio of previous work

  • Experience working with outsourcing partners
